Courage Development Foundation – Shelter Development and Renovation

Courage Development Foundation has achieved milstones in Shelter building and upgradation. The projects completed in this regard are serving thousands of people and are looked upon as some of the best to provide relief to mankind. Following are the details of CDF’s services in this particular matter.

  1. Up-Gradation and Renovation of Panah Shelter Home Karachi and the Provision of Furniture, Equipment and other missing Facilities

About Panah Shelter Home

Panah provides shelter and solace to women who are victims of domestic and societal injustices and empowers them to take the path of socio- economic independence.

Panah accommodates women who are survivors of domestic violence, under threat to their safety as a result of exercising their choice in marriage or divorce, victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse, assault and exploitation and women seeking temporary refuge from other social injustices. Majority of women entering Panah Shelter Home are married, ages between 16 to 30 and mostly illiterate.

The women are entertained in the Panah Shelter Home without any discrimination of caste, creed, nationality or any other affiliation. The only criteria is that they are women and facing challenge. They come to Panah through court orders, referred by NGOs, lawyers, police sources etc.

Objective:- To enhance capacity of the Panah Shelter Home Karachi to accommodate more women victims of violence and abuse, provide them necessary medical and legal aid and protection from social and life threats

Activities:-

The activities of the project include the complete renovation of the building and the up-gradation of the admin block so that the capacity of the shelter home may be increased to accommodate 30 additional women. Furthermore facilities will be provided for new residents like furniture, bedding, and electronic appliances and for the new admin block as well.

Beneficiaries:-

The project will benefit thousands of women who become the victims of domestic and gender based violence and find no refuge anywhere. It is a shelter home in Pakistan for women which receives women from all parts of the country so in a way it is the facility for all women.

Shelter construction project for Afghan Refugees.

Location:- Kot Chandna Refugee Camp, Mianwali
Duration:-6 Months
Funding Agency:- UNHCR

Objective:- To provide safe shelters to the displaced Afghan Refugees

Beneficiaries:-

The beneficiaries of the project were 167 Afghan Refugee families.

Provision of Shelters to the land less Flood affected and marginalized boat families

Location:- UC Rung Pur, Tehsil & District Muzafargarh and UC Jhakar Imam Shah, Tehsil Kot Chutta, District DG Khan

Duration:-10 Months

Funding Agency:- UNHCR

Objective:- To provide shelters to the flood affected landless families and the Boat families never having safe shelter in their life

Beneficiaries:-

The beneficiaries of the project were 343 families from Rung Pur KhudaiWala and KhajiWala which lost their shelters and settlement land in Flood 2010. 400 boat families of DG Khan from Ghazi Ghat, Jhakhar Imam and Jam Pur living along the bank of River Indus in boats as shelters but lost their boats in flood 2010. Boat people is a marginalized ethnic group.

Provision of Shelters to the Flood Affected Families

Location:- UC Mehmood Kot, Allurid, Shaikh Umer, Jatoi, Bakaini, Tehsil Kot Addu &Jatoi, District Muzafargarh
Duration:-03 Months
Funding Agency:- UNHCR

Objective:- To provide shelters to the flood affected families which are 100% affected by the flood

Beneficiaries:-
The beneficiaries of the project were 18 hamlets 400 families which have completely lost their shelters and means in flood 2010. Mostly vulnerable like widows, disable, elderly and large families benefited from the project.
